The Boeing B52 Stratofortress is a long range bomber that entered U.S. Air Force service in 1955. It is one of the longest serving military aircraft in history.
Built during the Cold War, the B52 has flown missions in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Still Flying
Upgrades to engines and electronics are planned to keep the B52 flying for decades more, meaning some crews fly the same airframes their grandparents might have flown.
