USS Constitution was launched in Boston in 1797 and is the oldest commissioned warship still afloat in the world.

The wooden frigate earned the nickname Old Ironsides during the War of 1812, when cannonballs seemed to bounce off her thick oak sides during her victory over HMS Guerriere.

Still Serving

The ship is crewed by active duty U.S. Navy sailors who lead tours and take her into Boston Harbor for special events.

Visit

USS Constitution and the USS Constitution Museum are located at the Charlestown Navy Yard, part of Boston’s Freedom Trail.

See It in Person

Ohio is a great place to see military history up close. The National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton is free and displays hundreds of aircraft, and local veterans memorials, county historical societies, and VFW and American Legion posts across the state often display vehicles and artifacts. Thank a veteran when you visit.
