The Boeing B17 Flying Fortress was a heavy bomber used by the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II. The Memphis Belle became one of the most famous B17s after its crew completed 25 combat missions over Europe in 1943.

The crew then toured the United States to boost morale and sell war bonds.

Ohio Connection

After years of careful restoration, the Memphis Belle went on display in 2018 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton.
