Male Baltimore Orioles are bright orange and black, while females are yellow orange with gray wings. Their whistled songs fill Ohio woods in late spring.

Orioles eat insects, fruit, and nectar. They weave remarkable hanging nests that look like small bags dangling from tree branches.

Where to See It

Tall shade trees in parks and neighborhoods from spring through summer.

Birding Tip

Offer orange halves and grape jelly in spring to attract them when they return.

Fun Fact

Orioles spend the winter in Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.

Help Birds Thrive

Native plants, clean water, and a few safe places to shelter make any yard more welcoming to birds. Keep feeders clean, place them away from windows, and keep cats indoors to protect local wildlife.
