Cedar Waxwings are elegant birds with silky brown feathers, a black mask, a soft crest, and a yellow tip on the tail.
They travel in flocks and feast on berries and fruit. Some have bright red, waxy tips on their wing feathers, which give the bird its name.
Where to See It
Fruit trees, berry bushes, and wooded edges, often in flocks.
Fun Fact
Waxwings sometimes pass berries from bird to bird along a branch.
Help Birds Thrive
Native plants, clean water, and a few safe places to shelter make any yard more welcoming to birds. Keep feeders clean, place them away from windows, and keep cats indoors to protect local wildlife.
