Sprains and strains are common injuries to ligaments and muscles.

Rest the injured area, apply a cold pack wrapped in a cloth for about 20 minutes at a time, use a compression wrap and elevate the limb.

Pin Tip

Never put ice directly on bare skin.

When to See a Doctor

Get medical care if the person cannot bear weight, the limb looks deformed, or pain and swelling are severe.

Get Trained

This pin is for general education only and does not replace hands on training. Take a certified CPR and first aid course from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, and always call 911 in an emergency.
