The Sphynx began in Toronto, Canada, in 1966 when a hairless kitten was born to a domestic cat. Breeders later developed the line.
Sphynx cats are not completely bald but have a fine peach fuzz. They are warm to the touch, outgoing, and very affectionate.
Care Tips
Bathe regularly to remove skin oils, clean ears often, and keep them warm and out of strong sun.
Fun Fact
Without fur, a Sphynx’s skin shows the color and pattern it would have had in its coat.
Is This Breed Right for You?
Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.
Health Basics
Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.
