The grizzly bear is a North American brown bear known for the muscular hump on its shoulders and its silver tipped fur. Grizzlies live in Alaska, western Canada, and parts of the northern Rocky Mountains, including Yellowstone.
They eat a wide mix of foods, from roots, berries, and moths to fish and large mammals.
Amazing Facts
Grizzlies can run around 35 miles per hour in short bursts. Before winter they eat heavily, then spend months in a den, where females give birth to tiny cubs.
Safety Tip
In bear country, hike in groups, make noise, store food properly, and carry bear spray. Always follow park guidance and never approach a bear.
Watch Responsibly
Whether you are on safari, in a national park, or at an Ohio zoo, give wild animals space, follow posted rules, and never feed wildlife. Supporting accredited zoos and conservation groups helps protect these animals and their habitats for future generations.
