The European Burmese shares its roots with the American Burmese but was developed separately in Britain and Europe, where breeders added colors such as red, cream, and tortoiseshell.
It has a slightly more elegant, moderate look than its American cousin. European Burmese are affectionate, playful, and very people focused.
Care Tips
The short, satiny coat needs little grooming. These cats prefer active homes with plenty of interaction.
Fun Fact
Some registries, including the Cat Fanciers’ Association, recognize the European Burmese as its own breed.
Is This Breed Right for You?
Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.
Health Basics
Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.
