Chevrolet’s Advance Design trucks arrived in 1947 as the company’s first all new postwar pickups and stayed in production into early 1955. The half ton was called the 3100, with 3600 and 3800 models for heavier work.
Wider cabs, better visibility, and the optional five window cab with corner glass made these trucks feel modern after the war years.
Under the Hood
Most were powered by Chevrolet’s reliable inline six, nicknamed the Thriftmaster in later years.
Why Collectors Love It
Chevrolet was the top selling truck brand during this era, so Advance Design trucks are plentiful, and restored or customized examples are fixtures at car shows across Ohio and the country.
Before You Buy
Check the frame, cab corners, floors, and bed for rust, confirm the title and serial numbers match, and ask for service records. A local classic truck club or a trusted mechanic can help you judge parts availability and a fair price before you commit.
