Most seizures stop on their own within a few minutes.

Stay with the person, move hard objects away, cushion the head and turn them gently onto their side. Do not hold them down or put anything in their mouth.

Pin Tip

Time the seizure from start to finish.

When to Call 911

Call 911 if a seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, happens in water, causes injury, or the person does not wake up afterward.

Get Trained

This pin is for general education only and does not replace hands on training. Take a certified CPR and first aid course from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, and always call 911 in an emergency.
