Bold Cajun spices form a dark, flavorful crust on tender salmon. Serve with rice, slaw or a green salad.
Serves: 4 | Total time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Mix all the spices and the salt in a small bowl.
- Pat the salmon dry and coat the tops and sides with the spice mixture.
- Melt the butter in a cast iron skillet over medium high heat.
- Cook the salmon spice side down for 3 to 4 minutes until dark and fragrant.
- Flip and cook 3 to 5 minutes more until it reaches 145°F.
Pin Tip
Turn on the vent fan. Blackening creates plenty of smoke, which is part of the flavor.
Food Safety
Cook salmon until it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F, measured in the thickest part, and the flesh flakes easily with a fork.
