The LaPerm began in 1982 on a farm in The Dalles, Oregon, when a barn cat gave birth to a nearly bald kitten that later grew a coat of soft curls.

LaPerms come in short and long coats, with curls ranging from waves to ringlets. They are affectionate, gentle, and enjoy laps.

Care Tips

Comb lightly once a week to keep curls from tangling, and avoid heavy brushing.

Fun Fact

The breed takes its name from its permanent wave style curls.

Is This Breed Right for You?

Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.

Health Basics

Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.

Save this pin to your cat lovers board and share it with a fellow cat fan. Thinking about a new cat? Check Ohio shelters and rescues too.
