The Chevrolet El Camino combined a car front end and cab with an open cargo bed. It was first built in 1959 and 1960, then returned in 1964 on the Chevelle platform and stayed in production until 1987.
Chevrolet created it as an answer to Ford’s Ranchero, which had launched two years earlier.
Muscle Era
During the late 1960s and early 1970s the El Camino could be ordered with powerful V8 engines and SS trim, linking it to the muscle car craze.
Why Collectors Love It
It drives like a car but can still haul a load, and the 1959 model with its wide horizontal fins is a showstopper.
Before You Buy
Check the frame, cab corners, floors, and bed for rust, confirm the title and serial numbers match, and ask for service records. A local classic truck club or a trusted mechanic can help you judge parts availability and a fair price before you commit.
