The Egyptian Mau is one of the few naturally spotted domestic breeds. Russian princess Nathalie Troubetzkoy brought the first Maus to the United States in 1956.
Maus have gooseberry green eyes, a scarab like M marking on the forehead, and a random spotted pattern. They are loyal and active.
Care Tips
Give room to run and climb, since Maus are athletic. The short coat needs only weekly brushing.
Fun Fact
The Egyptian Mau is often cited as one of the fastest domestic cats, able to sprint around 30 miles per hour.
Is This Breed Right for You?
Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.
Health Basics
Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.
