Understanding Your A1C Test

October 25, 20261 min readBy PinGallery

The A1C test reflects your average blood sugar over roughly the past two to three months.

An A1C of 6.5 percent or higher on two tests generally indicates diabetes. Many adults with diabetes aim for an A1C below 7 percent, but your doctor will set the right target for you.

Pin Tip

Keep a record of your A1C results to track progress over time.

Work With Your Care Team

This pin shares general health information, not medical advice. Diabetes care is personal, so follow the targets, medications, and meal plan set by your doctor, diabetes educator, or dietitian.

Know the Emergency Signs

Call 911 if someone with diabetes becomes confused, cannot stay awake, has a seizure, or cannot safely swallow. Seek urgent care for very high blood sugar with vomiting, deep rapid breathing, or a fruity breath odor.
