Prediabetes means blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet in the diabetes range. An A1C of 5.7 to 6.4 percent is generally considered prediabetes.

Many people can lower their risk of developing type 2 diabetes through modest weight loss, healthy eating, and regular physical activity. Structured lifestyle programs can help.
