CPR for a child from age 1 to puberty is similar to adult CPR with a few changes.

Use one or two hands and push about 2 inches deep, or about one third of the chest depth, at 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

Pin Tip

If you are alone with a child and no phone, give about two minutes of CPR before leaving to call 911.

Breaths Matter for Kids

Children often have breathing problems that lead to cardiac arrest, so trained rescuers should include rescue breaths.

Get Trained

This pin is for general education only and does not replace hands on training. Take a certified CPR and first aid course from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, and always call 911 in an emergency.
