The Tonkinese was developed in Canada and the United States in the 1960s by crossing Siamese and Burmese cats.
Tonks combine traits of both parents, with medium bodies and striking aqua eyes in the mink pattern. They are social, playful, and talkative.
Care Tips
Provide lots of interaction and toys. The short coat needs only occasional brushing.
Fun Fact
Tonkinese come in three patterns: pointed, mink, and solid.
Is This Breed Right for You?
Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.
Health Basics
Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.
