The moose is the largest member of the deer family. Bulls can stand about six feet tall at the shoulder and weigh well over 1,000 pounds. Moose live in northern forests across North America, Europe, and Asia.

They often feed in ponds and lakes, eating water plants as well as twigs and leaves.

Amazing Facts

A bull moose grows a new set of antlers every year, and the broad antlers can span about five feet or more. Moose are also good swimmers.

Safety Tip

Moose may look calm, but they can be dangerous, especially cows with calves and bulls in the fall rut. Keep a safe distance.

Watch Responsibly

Whether you are on safari, in a national park, or at an Ohio zoo, give wild animals space, follow posted rules, and never feed wildlife. Supporting accredited zoos and conservation groups helps protect these animals and their habitats for future generations.
