The cheetah is the fastest land animal, reaching about 60 to 70 miles per hour in short sprints. It lives mainly in eastern and southern Africa, with a very small population in Iran.

A slim body, long legs, a flexible spine, and semi retractable claws for grip help the cheetah accelerate quickly. Its long tail works like a rudder for sharp turns.

Amazing Facts

The black tear marks on a cheetah’s face may help reduce sun glare. Cheetahs chirp and purr but cannot roar like lions.

Ohio Connection

The Cincinnati Zoo is known for its cheetah program and has supported cheetah conservation in Africa. Cheetahs are listed as vulnerable.

Watch Responsibly

Whether you are on safari, in a national park, or at an Ohio zoo, give wild animals space, follow posted rules, and never feed wildlife. Supporting accredited zoos and conservation groups helps protect these animals and their habitats for future generations.
