Low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia, is generally a reading below 70 mg/dL. It can happen with certain diabetes medications, skipped meals, or extra activity.

Symptoms may include shakiness, sweating, fast heartbeat, hunger, irritability, dizziness, or confusion. Treat it promptly according to your care plan.

Pin Tip

Carry glucose tablets or another fast acting sugar source.

Know the Emergency Signs

Call 911 if someone with diabetes becomes confused, cannot stay awake, has a seizure, or cannot safely swallow. Seek urgent care for very high blood sugar with vomiting, deep rapid breathing, or a fruity breath odor.
