GPS trackers can be useful for fleet vehicles and personal property, but placing one on someone else’s vehicle can create serious legal problems.

Track only vehicles and property you own or are legally authorized to monitor. Laws on tracking vary, so consult an attorney before using a tracker in any personal or family matter.

Pin Tip

Businesses should disclose fleet tracking to employees in writing.

Stay Within the Law

Use cameras to protect your own property, never to record places where people expect privacy such as bathrooms or bedrooms of others. Recording laws vary, and audio recording carries extra rules. When in doubt, speak with an attorney before installing or using any surveillance system.
