In March 2020 Dr. Amy Acton advised Governor DeWine as Ohio became one of the first states to close schools and limit large gatherings. A statewide stay at home order followed.

She warned early that confirmed case counts likely understated how far the virus had spread.

Praise and Criticism

National outlets compared her to Dr. Anthony Fauci, and many Ohioans credited the early actions with slowing the spread. Others criticized the economic and school impacts, and businesses including a group of gyms challenged orders in court.

Tense Times

Protesters gathered at the Statehouse and at her home, and she was assigned a security detail.
