The president is chosen through the Electoral College, which has 538 electors. A candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes to win.

Each state’s number of electors equals its total seats in the House and Senate. Most states, including Ohio, award all of their electors to the candidate who wins the statewide popular vote.

Pin Tip

Look up a state’s electoral votes to see how population affects representation.

Check Official Sources

Election rules, dates, and deadlines can change. For current, accurate information, check the Ohio Secretary of State website, your county board of elections, or the official website of the government body involved.

Stay Engaged Respectfully

Civic life works best when people listen, ask questions, and share views respectfully. Look at multiple sources, separate facts from opinions, and focus on issues rather than personal attacks.
