The Burmilla began in the United Kingdom in 1981 after an unplanned litter between a Chinchilla Persian and a lilac Burmese.
The kittens had striking silver shaded coats and eyes that look outlined with makeup. Burmillas are gentle, playful, and affectionate without being demanding.
Care Tips
A weekly brushing keeps the coat neat. Burmillas enjoy play sessions and quiet cuddles.
Fun Fact
Breeders liked the first litter so much that they developed it into a recognized breed.
Is This Breed Right for You?
Every cat is an individual, so meet the cat before you decide. Think about your schedule, grooming time, other pets, and children in the home. Breed rescues and Ohio shelters often have purebred and mixed breed cats waiting for homes, and adult cats come with personalities you can see right away.
Health Basics
Schedule a checkup soon after adoption, keep vaccines and parasite prevention current, and ask your veterinarian about health issues common to the breed. Responsible breeders should share health screening results and welcome your questions.
